Common Dog Grooming Myths Debunked

false

Myth #1: Shaving a double coated dog in the summer will keep them cool

Fact: Shaving a dog during the summer may seem like a good idea to keep them cool, but it can actually do more harm than good. A dog’s coat provides natural insulation, protecting them from both the heat and the cold. Shaving a dog removes this insulation, leaving them vulnerable to sunburn and skin irritation. Instead of shaving, provide your dog with plenty of shade and hydration during hot weather.

Myth #2: You should brush your dog’s hair every day

Fact: The frequency of brushing depends on your dog’s breed and coat type. Some dogs may only need to be brushed once a week, while others may require daily brushing. Over-brushing can also damage the coat and skin, so it’s important to find the right balance. Consult with your veterinarian or a professional groomer to determine the best brushing schedule for your dog.

Myth #3: Trimming a dog’s nails too short will cause them to bleed

Fact: Trimming the quick, or the pink part of a dog’s nail, can cause bleeding. However, this can easily be avoided by using a sharp, proper-sized trimmer and cutting just the tip of the nail. If you’re unsure about trimming your dog’s nails, ask your veterinarian or a professional groomer for assistance.

Myth #4: Dogs don’t need regular baths

Fact: Regular bathing can help keep a dog’s skin and coat healthy, remove dirt and parasites, and improve overall hygiene. However, over-bathing can strip natural oils from the skin and cause dryness. The frequency of bathing depends on your dog’s breed, activity level, and skin type, so consult with your dog groomer or veterinarian to determine the best schedule.

Myth #5: You can use human shampoo on dogs

Fact: Human shampoo can be harsh and drying for a dog’s skin. It’s important to use a shampoo specifically designed for dogs to ensure their skin and coat stay healthy. Look for shampoos that are pH balanced and contain gentle, nourishing ingredients like oatmeal, aloe, and vitamin E.

In conclusion, proper grooming is an important aspect of caring for your dog. By separating fact from fiction and following accurate information, you can ensure that your dog stays healthy and happy. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to consult with your veterinarian or a professional groomer.

Very impressed with this company, my dog has never looked so good

Dan came to my house, asked me what I wanted him to do and explained that I needed to be more specific, I showed him a photo of my cocker spaniel how I liked him but not knowing if he could make him like this again, when he brought him back, I saw my beautiful boy again looking all handsome and smelling like he’s just walked out of a pooch parlour. He made my boy look so handsome! I was overwhelmed and so so happy! Thank you Dan for getting it spot on! 👌🙌

Brilliant! Absolutely lovely chap, clearly really cares about the dogs and did a great job on our previously very hairy pups first trim. Such an easy process, will definitely be using again. Thanks so much!

Would highly recommend, extremely pleased with the results
